Golden French Toast
Golden custard-coated breakfast classic
A comforting, easy-to-make brunch staple that soaks day-old bread in a sweet egg mixture and cooks it until fluffy and caramelized.

- 6 thick bread slices (stale is better)
- 2 eggs
- 150 ml milk
- 1 tbsp sugar

Beat eggs, milk, sugar, and vanilla in a shallow bowl until frothy and well combined.

Place one bread slice in the mixture, soak for 10 seconds each side, turning once.
Tip Do not soak too long or the bread will fall apart

Melt half the butter in a large non-stick pan over medium heat.
Tip The pan should shimmer but not smoke

Lay two soaked slices in the pan and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until golden on the bottom.

Flip slices, add remaining butter, and cook another 2 to 3 minutes until set and caramelized.

Transfer cooked toast to a plate, repeating the process for the remaining four slices in batches.
Tip Work in two batches to avoid overcrowding the pan
